KB_4088314 If the master planning (MRP) process runs with a non-system admin role, the intercompany demand is ignored. The changes in the hotfix add a new privilege and a duty. The privilege gives the read access to a minimum set of tables which allows MRP to pick up the intercompany demand. You need to create a new role, please according to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg731823.aspx.
KB_4090114 When you select transactions to be adjusted by specifying a financial date range, and then adjust these transactions to the item cost price, an adjustment is created on only a small number of line. When you post the adjustment, you receive the following error message:

This collection is enabled through the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) feature.

This change turns off the data collection from the Dynamics AX client side.  The data storage is already disabled from the Microsoft system.
KB_4077527 When you attempt to use the Pay gift card functionality to issue a refund, it fails because the card is not issued. The changes in the hotfix ask you if you want to issue a new gift card with that number when the gift card does not exist. If yes, then issue a new gift card with the number and amount of 0 first, and then use that gift card for refunds.

Backup and restore performance improvements and support for large disk backup

Support for backup of large disk virtual machines (VMs) and a new set of improvements aimed at reducing time taken for backup and restore are now available. These improvements and large disk support are based on a new VM backup stack, and are available for both managed and unmanaged disks. Seamlessly upgrade to this new stack without any impact to your ongoing backup jobs, and there's no change to how you set up backup or restore.

This announcement combines multiple feature improvements:

  • Large disk support—Backup VMs with disk sizes up to 4 TB (4,095 GB), both managed and unmanaged.
  • Instant recovery point—A recovery point is available as soon as the snapshot is done as part of the backup job. This eliminates the need to wait to trigger restore until the data transfer phase of the backup is completed. This is particularly useful in scenarios where you want to apply a patch.
  • Backup and Restore performance improvements—As part of this new announcement, we're retaining the snapshots taken as part of the backup job for seven days. This will help us to compute the changes between two backup jobs in an efficient manner to reduce the backup time. These snapshots can also be used to trigger restore, and reduce the restore time from hours to minutes.
  • Distribute the disks of restored VM—If you're using unmanaged VM, you might have noticed that all disks restore to the same storage account. We're adding a capability to tell us to distribute those disks to the same set of storage accounts as the original VM in order to reduce the reconfiguration needed post restore.

Portal:

You'll see a banner on the Recovery Services vault dashboard. Clicking on the banner will open a screen where you can upgrade the stack and get above feature improvements. You can upgrade the complete subscription from any of the vaults. Once upgraded, all VM backups in the subscription will get backed up using the new stack.

PowerShell:

Please execute following cmdlets from an elevated PowerShell terminal:

  1. Sign in to your Azure Account.
    PS C:> Login-AzureRmAccount
  2. Select the subscription you want to register for preview.
    PS C:> Get-AzureRmSubscription –SubscriptionName "Subscription Name" | Select-AzureRmSubscription
  3. Register this subscription for private preview.
    PS C:> Register-AzureRmProviderFeature -FeatureName “InstantBackupandRecovery” –ProviderNamespace Microsoft.RecoveryServices

Azure Traffic Manager Real User Measurements | GA

Azure Traffic Manager announces the general availability of Real User Measurements. This capability provides increased accuracy of routing decisions made by Azure Traffic Manager for queries against their profiles. It also ensures that Azure Traffic Manager’s existing network latency intelligence adequately spans the specific networks from where their users connect. Customers using this capability will run an Azure provided JavaScript code in their web properties to measure latency from their users’ networks to Azure regions. These measurements will be sent to the Azure Traffic Manager service where it will be used to enhance routing decisions. Customers needing to minimize network latency will be able to achieve that by using the Real User Measurements feature.

For more information, including pricing details, please visit the Real User Measurements overview page and the Azure Traffic Manager pricing page.

By using Traffic View, customers can understand where their user bases are located (up to a local DNS resolver level granularity), the volume of traffic originating from these regions, the representative latency experienced by these users. They can also deep dive into the specific traffic patterns from each of these user bases to Azure regions where the customer has presence. This information will be available in a geographic map in the Azure portal, and can be downloaded as raw data. This will give customers actionable intelligence on how to manage their capacity at existing Azure regions as well as new Azure regions to which they need to expand. For more information, including the pricing details, please visit the Traffic View overview page and the Azure Traffic Manager pricing page.

Heartbeat Metric Alerts for Log Analytics

$

At some point, if you have configured alerts within OMS, you probably have struggled with missing, delayed or false heartbeat alerts. We are aware of these issues and on most of the cases, it was related with latency - for further details on ingestion delays and how it affects the alrt configuration refer to this link. Having heard the feedback and in our process of constant improvement, we are introducing a preview of a new alerting feature within Azure Monitor (present in the Azure Portal).

With this new solution, we will able to retrieve near real-time notifications of a machine's heartbeat (as well as other metric related alerts), connected to Log Analytics. Let me share with you some clarity on the configuration of this feature:

Azure Monitor - Heartbeat Alerts (OMS)

Now for the new feauture - the near real-time alerting (currently in limited public preview):

This brings down the time it takes to generate a log alert to under 5 minutes. The Metric Alerts on Logs, currently supports the following log types on OMS Log Analytics - heartbeat, perf counters (including those from SCOM), and update.

With this solution, logs are converted to metrics as they stream into Log Analytics, these metrics are then pumped into the metrics platform where they can be alerted on. This metric conversion, avoids the ingestion of logs and a bypass is possible, avoiding the described ingestion delays.
Alerting configuration with the goal of validating machine hearbeat can now be configured, and a more reliable and consistent monitorization can be achieved by this

The official article with the launch is here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/faster-metric-alerts-for-logs-now-in-limited-public-preview/

Configure Alerts

Before starting the configuration, you will need to sign up for the this feature: https://aka.ms/MetricLogPreview

Afterwards you should be receiving a PDF with the additional details that you need to proceed on doing to gain access to it.

After performing the above, here's the configuration needed:

1 - Head to the Azure Portal and find "Monitor"

2 - Then to "Alerts" and select "New Alert Rule"

3 - Now, start adding the configurations for the alert, let's begin with the target selection - Select your target - Subscription, Resource Group and OMS workspace:

4

4 - Add a criteria - as soon as you select this option, you shall be present with all the available options including the metrics:

5 - For the purpose of this test, we will configure Heartbeat metric, after selecting it, you should be seeing something similar to this:

6 - You can configure the alert for your needs, by selecting the specific virtual machine, its OS, version, etc.
Also, configure the condition you wish to apply (in the example above, we have an alert for when the heartbeat is less than 3, to be checked over the period of the last 5 minutes, and with a frequency of 1 minute)

7 - Insert a name, description and severity for the alert, and check if you wish for it to become instantly enabled after creation:

8 - As final configuration, you need to define the action group, in order to notify specific individuals or teams, within a variety of channels (email, sms, runbooks, integration with third party ticketing software, etc):

You can create a new action group and select the method of your preference:

You are all set! From the moment you configure your alert you can manage it under Alerts in Manage Rules. You can delete, desable or enable your rules from there:

All of this process will provide a more closer experience to real-time monitorization, since the SLA's are incredibly low.

Feel free to reach out to me or my team, for further assistance on this.

Windows Server 2019- Announced

Wow things really do move quickly in the wonderful world of Microsoft Servers., no sooner have we managed to digest the Semi Annual Chanel (SAC 1709) changes Microsoft go and announce the availability of the ALL NEW Windows Server 2019 In Preview.

Erin Chapple the Director of Programme Managed wrote a blog article announcing the release. But what does this mean for the IT Pro and why have got so many editions, versions and changes.

Well. The Windows Server world has just caught up with what the Windows Client world has been doing for a couple of years.

There will be Windows Server (SAC) releases twice a year. identified by their date of release i.e the first SAC was 1709 (for September 2017). The Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) will be released every two to three years, this follows the previous Server release cycle of 2003 then R2, 2008 then R2, 2012 then R2. There will be no more R2 releases, and there will be two different focuses for the two different channels.

Listen very carefully I shall say this only once!

The LTSC will be available in all editions and deployment models (Core, GIU, Nano) Standard, Datacenter, Essentials etc.

The SAC will be only a core release and only in Standard and Datacenter. The focus of SAC is Container hosts and container technology as described by Erin in her article

The smaller Microsoft make the core image and the nano image the more effective they are as container images and container hosts.

Some of the other headline news

Honolulu will be included in the LTSC build as will Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection. Helping to create an even more secure platform fit to repel the modern threats we all face.

Manipulating webparts using PowerShell

$
0
0

Hello All,

One of my customers is making some changes to there Sites and part of that is to set the owner in a Contact Details webpart, since it is for several site we went and figured out the PowerShell.  The customer changes the title from 'Contact Details' to 'Site Owner'.

I wrote this without Error Checking as this was provided simply as an example, so I would suggest you add that yourself.

Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell

$WebAppURL = "http://sp2013app01"
$SiteUrl = "http://sp2013app01/sites/gremlins"
$PageName = "default.aspx"
$WebPartTitle = "Site Owner"
$SiteOwnerLogin = "weaveradministrator"

$Page = (Get-SPSite $SiteUrl).RootWeb.GetFile($PageName)
$WebPartMgr = $Page.GetLimitedWebPartManager([System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.PersonalizationScope]::Shared)
$WebPart = $WebPartMgr.WebParts | where{$_.Title -eq $WebPartTitle}
$webPart.ContactLoginName = $SiteOwnerLogin
$WebPartMgr.SaveChanges($webPart)

The key to this is the line.

$WebPartMgr = $Page.GetLimitedWebPartManager([System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.PersonalizationScope]::Shared)

Afterwards we are able to retrieve all the webparts and manipulate the property 'ContactLoginName' which is not obvious as the GUI shows Contact and there is a property named Contact as well.

Finally we run the method SaveChanges to complete everything.

[Microsoft] - [Windows] - [UpdateOrchestrator]

[Schedule Retry Scan]

3-1) [Schedule Scan]

Power BI for Sales Insights y Power BI for Service Insights estarán disponibles en versión previa muy pronto.

Install SQL Server Books Online – Offline

Many of my customers run production environments which have never, and will never, be able to connect directly to the internet. They still have the desire to install Books Online (BOL) into those environments though, which leads up to this blog post - how do we do that?

SQL 2012 & SQL 2014

For SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014, the BOL content can be downloaded directly from:

SQL 2012 BOL here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=347

SQL 2014 BOL here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42557

These downloads will give you a .EXE file which can then be extracted. Once extracted, you will see a "Product Documentation" folder (so for example, the SQL 2012 folder is called "SQLServer2012Documentation_December2012_EN") containing a top level installation file called "HelpContentSetup.msha". Then, go into SSMS, into the Help Viewer, go into "Add and Remove Content", then change the "Installation Source" to Disk, and navigate to the appropriate folder and specifically the file "HelpContentSetup.msha". You will then see the following:

The Product Documentation can then be installed in the usual manner... Just click "Add" and "Update".

SQL 2016 & SQL 2017

For SQL Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017, the BOL content cannot currently be downloaded directly in a self extracting ZIP from the internet. I am investigating if there are plans to release in a similar format to the SQL 2012 and SQL 2014 content, and will update the blog accordingly.

So... for SQL 2016 & SQL 2017, how do we get the BOL content onto a production machine without internet connectivity?

It is admittedly a little more involved, but we need a non-production machine which can connect to the internet and download the BOL content to the non-production machine first. Then we copy the BOL folder structure from the non-production machine to the production machine - Et. Voila.

So... step by step:

  1. On the non-production machine, launch SSMS (I used 17.6 in my test - the only caution I would offer is to ensure the version of the Help Viewer are the same). Go into the "Add and Remove Content" tab, and select the Installation Source as "Online" (See "1").
  2. Select the BOL content you would like to have (personally, I'd select everything here!) by "Add"ing, and then clicking "Update" (See "2") in the bottom right corner.
  3. The BOL content will then download into the location specified in the "Local Store Path" (See "3"), for me this is "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server140ToolsBinnManagementStudioExtensionsApplication"

image

Now we need to copy the content from this location over to the Production machine, and install it in the same location for the Production Machine's Help Viewer to be able to see it. To do this:

  1. If we look in the "Local Store Path", we should be able to see:
  2. image
  3. These three folders are the ones we need to copy over to the Production Machine, and install into the exact same folder structure.
  4. Once copied, launching the Help Viewer should immediately show BOL as being available.

Final Note:

If the installed BOL content shows unrendered HTML tags rather than the expected nicely formatted HTML documentation, it is likely that we need to turn off the IE Enhanced Security in Server Manager.
