■「The Microsoft Asia Workplace 2020 Study」

space

170417_04

space

space

170417_06

space

Remove Office Add-in references from “Recently Used Add-ins” area of Office 2016

Overview:

Currently there is no way to remove an App for Office add-in reference from Office 2016 (see below).

recentaddins

These add-in references are stored in the registry under a combination value that includes the add-in’s ID GUID.  This ID can be seen in both the add-in manifest and in the SharePoint Online application catalog (see below).

appcat

Workaround:

***Computer systems can be broken if registry edits are not performed properly, use this workaround at your own risk.  There are no guarantees or warrantees of any kind **

There are a list of Item(1,2,3,etc) values  under a key like this one:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice16.0ExcelWeb Extension User MRUADAL_z139970C84C528DEE9B3F50D634024065AABC863258DFEC9DB277DB4808974A9File MRU

The entry looks like this value name = “Item1”

value = “[F00000000][T01D2B8497B0ABB70][O00000000]*51c8c010-87f6-4b2a-b105-e6128bc8b66z SPCatalog https://hempele3.sharepoint.com/sites/apps   1.0.0.0”

Since the add-in reference you want to remove could be anywhere in this list, it could be complicated to find and removed.

I have created a sample program that will remove these add-in references:

usage: RemoveAddinRef <app excel word powerpoint> <GUID of addin>
example: RemoveAddinRef excel 51c8c010-87f6-4b2a-b105-e6128bc8b66f

The GUID can be obtained from the “Apps for Office” catalog that can be found in the SharePoint admin tools for Office 365.

Outlook zobrazí nové okno, kde stačí zadat název skupiny a pomocí tlačítka Přidat členy určíte, kdo bude členem dané skupiny.

Changes to Automatic Grouping for Corporate Pre-enrolled iOS Devices

$

Daniel Gerrity | Program Manager, Intune

For the last few months, we have been migrating group management out of Intune and into Azure Active Directory. This change will bring us some exciting new features, but it also means we have to make some changes to existing features that use Intune groups, like the Corporate Device Enrollment profile. In this post, I’ll share more detail on what’s changing and then what you’ll want to do check on post-migration to ensure you understand how automatic grouping will work going forward.

Automatic Grouping Before You Get Migrated

Let’s say you have a bunch of iOS devices purchased by your organization, and you want to pre-enroll them using the Apple Device Enrollment Program or the Apple Configurator tool. During enrollment, you want all of these iOS devices to configured the same way. In the Intune classic console, you can create a Corporate Device Enrollment profile under Policy->Corporate Device Enrollment:

Corporate Device Enrollment Profile

Corporate Device Enrollment Profile

If you want all of these devices to belong to the same Intune group, you can set that under the Corporate Device Enrollment Profile, using the setting “Assign devices to the following group”:

Automatic grouping before migration

Automatic grouping before migration

This optional setting made it easy for you to get all those devices into the correct Intune device group automatically. As new devices enroll, you can deploy policy, apps, and terms and conditions consistently.

Automatic Grouping After You Get Migrated

After we have moved your Intune groups to Azure AD, you won’t have the option to “Assign devices to the following group” because that would be looking for an Intune group.

Automatic grouping after migration

Automatic grouping after migration

We’ll make sure any existing Corporate Device Enrollment profiles still give you the same result, but you’ll configure new profiles a bit differently, so they work with Azure AD groups.

Working with New Profiles and Groups

If you want a new Corporate Device Enrollment profile, go ahead and create it either in the Intune classic portal, or in the Intune on Azure portal; in either case, you won’t designate the group in the profile anymore.

If you want corporate iOS devices to end up in a new group, you’ll need to create it in Azure AD. You can go to http://portal.azure.com , click Microsoft Intune, and then click Groups.

groups

(Even though the breadcrumbs at the top say Microsoft Intune, if you look under Users and Groups, it tells you that you are really in Azure Active Directory.)

adding a new group

Create a new Azure AD group with the Membership type = Dynamic Device.

Membership type = Dynamic Device

And add a simple query rule so it will find something that matches your enrollmentProfileName.

enrollmentProfileName should find your profile name

This group will now automatically collect all devices as they enroll, just as before.

Managing Existing Profiles and Groups

If you already had Corporate Device Enrollment profiles, they will still work. The migration process will automatically create dynamic versions of existing groups so you don’t need to do any of the steps above for existing profiles. Actually, the migration process creates two groups, one to account for any existing devices and one to handle any newly enrolled devices.

Migration creates a dynamic AAD device group for each profile. The name of the group is based on the Corporate Device Enrollment profile’s name, for example, “EnrollmentProfile: Kiosk Devices”, and the membership criterion makes enrollmentProfileName equal to the existing enrollment profile name. Any new devices that enroll using this profile are automatically added to this dynamic group.

The dynamic group won’t capture any devices that have already enrolled, so the migration process also creates a static or “assigned” membership AAD group with the same name as your old Intune device group, for example, “CP Kiosk”. The static group contains all the devices in your Intune group at the time of migration. The static group also contains the dynamic group as a nested group. In this example, they dynamic group EnrollmentProfile: Kiosk Devices would be a member of the assigned group CP Kiosk.

During the migration process, any policies, terms and conditions, or apps you had targeted at your Intune enrollment group are re-targeted to the static group. This means all existing groups members get the policy (because they are in the static, parent group) and all newly enrolled devices get the policy (because they are in the dynamic, child group.)

We hope this post was helpful in describing the changes you will see in your device enrollment profiles after your account is migrated to the new Intune on Azure experience.

Printcious is an e-commerce website and web application that allows people to customize the design, color, and print of personalized gifts such as t-shirts, mugs, phone cases, hats, purses, and bags. You can select from thousands of customizable, pre-made designs or start from scratch and create the perfect gift. The process is designed to be intuitive: simply browse the website’s templates, select and customize your gift, and Printcious will print and ship within 3 business days.

What makes Printcious truly unique is that it also provides an online marketplace for designers and graphic artists to promote their work. This allows people to select high-quality items from professional and amateur artists, and gives local artists a chance to showcase their craft and increase their visibility. Plus, artists that feature their work with Printcious receive a portion of every sale the website makes on their behalf – helping them quickly turn a profit without having to worry about creating expensive marketplaces or time consuming printing and shipping operations.

While workshopping the idea that eventually became Printcious, founders and twins Vincent and Henry Tong knew they needed software that would produce a website that could handle thousands of design options without sacrificing performance. After evaluating several cloud platforms they turned to Azure because it provided the flexibility and resiliency that they needed to scale. Printcious is hosted in the Azure cloud and leverages Azure VM’s and SVN because they enable customers and artists to upload their designs from a variety of locations without sacrificing quality or operating speed. The website also uses Azure SQL to configure its enormous database and Azure CDN to improve its overall performance.

“Azure was key for our website and web application, and has helped us to grow our business in a short amount of time,” says Vincent Tong, “As we continue to expand, we are exploring machine learning and business intelligence to evolve the entire experience.”

Configuring Windows Information Protection In The Azure Portal Preview

$

0

A few weeks ago I made several posts about Azure Active Directory Preview in the Azure Portal, and this week it’s time to start looking at some of the Intune preview capabilities in the Azure Portal. Today I’ll start with Windows Information Protection, which has moved into the Intune Mobile Application Management blade.

Previously this is where the Platform choices (highlighted above) only showed iOS and Android, but now we have Windows 10 making a long overdue appearance. Once I fill out the Name and Description I choose to Add apps.

Add Apps provides the option of adding Recommended Apps as one of the options, which you can see is a collection of Microsoft Desktop and Store apps.

Once the Recommended Apps have been added (you don’t need to select them, or select them all), you can then choose to customise the app list further by clicking Add apps.

Now we can add Store apps.

And Desktop apps.

We can also choose to Import apps via AppLocker XML files.

We can also Add apps that are exempt.

Required setting provides
options
that should look familiar if you have configured WIP from the Silverlight based classic Intune portal.

The first page of Configure advanced settings gives the ability to start identifying the trusted network boundaries, and how Data protection should be enforced.

You can add the Name and Value of several identified boundaries

Enabling Windows Hello for Business as a sign in method is also configured here.

Finally we need to deploy this, so we need to choose Add user group and then we can target the users we want the policy to apply to.

workstyle-innovation-movement

Many of you will have been waiting for the official release date of the Windows 10 Creators Update last week and now that it is launched the best place to get an overview of the new features is the official Windows Blog.

You can read the post introducing Creators Update here.

For a visual overview, here is a good video clip:

Some of the features that really stand out for me are:

  • 3D Paint – the ease of building out 3D apps in Creators Update is a neat feature with plenty of real world application, especially in education.
  • Mixed Reality – the announcement of lower-cost devices that will support mixed reality is exciting as it means more students can develop in this space without the cost of a HoloLens headset.
  • Beam Game Broadcasting – for the gamers amongst us, you can now easily stream your games in real time to the web for others to follow along with – no need for third party tools.
  • Updates to the Edge Browser, including better tab management and preview options, default support of PDF and eBook reading is now a feature as well.
  • Mini View Feature – an “always on top” frame allowing you to keep an eye on a critical app, skype call, or browser window, whilst working in another window at the same time.
  • A whole range of new security updates to keep your device safe.

Read the blog overview here.

There are a range of different ways to get Windows 10 Creators Update, from the blog link above:

You can get the Creators Update in a few different ways. If you already have a Windows 10 PC and have automatic updates enabled, the update will be delivered to you when it’s ready. Active Directory Reporting: Unused Group Age Report.

$

Today’s topic is going to be getting rid of unused groups in the forest.  Over the last few years I’m seeing a growing trend were administrators or identity groups are creating groups that are never used.  Once these groups are created it seems impossible to get these groups removed due to the unknown.  These unknowns are several things like; it might be used just empty, or we have no idea what is using it.  As part of my continue discussions I started focusing on low hanging fruit (groups).  To solve this I started out focusing on if memberof and members are empty and the when change was older than x it must be unused.  This seems logical but turns out it was not, I then expanded my search to include if msDS-ReplValueMetaData is null and if the whencreated is older than x.  There are several topics around leveraging msDS-ReplValueMetaData and what is it used for, in short this is an attribute that contains all of the replication metadata around linked values (Use PowerShell and Repadmin to Check for Updates to High Privileged Groups). If the attribute is empty more than likely the group has never had any direct members added to it.  I have found that at least a fourth of all groups in most Active Directory environments fall into this category.

Here is the script I threw together.

$_default_log = $env:userprofile + 'Documentsnever_used_ad_group_age.csv'
If ($(Try { Test-Path $_default_log} Catch { $false })){Remove-Item $_default_log -force}

(get-adforest).domains | foreach {$_domain = $_
    get-adgroup -LDAPFilter "(&(!(member=*))(!(memberof=*)))" -Properties "msDS-ReplValueMetaData",whencreated,groupscope,groupcategory -server $_domain | `
        where {(!($_."msDS-ReplValueMetaData"))} | select `
        @{name='Domain';expression={$_domain}},name,samaccountname,groupcategory,groupscope,whencreated,`
        @{name='AgeinDays';expression={(new-TimeSpan($($_.whencreated)) $(Get-Date)).days}},isCriticalSystemObject,distinguishedname,`
        @{name='ParentOU';expression={$($_.distinguishedname -split '(?<![\]),')[1..$($($_.distinguishedname -split '(?<![\]),').Count-1)] -join ','}} | `
        export-csv $_default_log -Append -NoTypeInformation
}

write-host "Report Can be found here $_default_log"

This will run through all the domains in a forest.

Once the script is complete open it in excel and pivot on the data of your choice.  Here is some examples on how I would

Select the data

image

select Insert Pivot Table, make the pivot table fields look like the following:

image

Should have a nice little view like this

image

*Consider filtering out OU’s or Containers like Builtin and Users.

Make the Pivot Table Fields look like this

image

A nice view of each ou and the age and count of groups should be displayed.

Now that you have this data hopefully it will be enough to clean out some of the bloat in Active Directory. In a next blog post we will tackle getting the last change from the msDS-ReplValueMetaData to figure out the last time an object was added or removed.  Hope you find this useful and have a good day.

March 2017 – TechNet Guru Winners!

All the votes are in!

And below are the results for the TechNet Guru Awards, March 2017 !!!!

The TechNet Guru Awards celebrate the technical articles on TechNet, contributed from valued wiki authors like YOU!

Each month, the contributions are scored by a panel of judges (5 per category, 2-3 in each are MS experts), and the winners of each category are showered with love and attention from all corners of TechNet.

See the links at the bottom, to find out more about the competition and how to enter.

We have picked the top three highest scored contributions for each category to bestow our awards upon.

The awards are in gold, silver and bronze, the gold obviously being the top winner of the category.

The last column is just a few of the comments judges made during the judging process.

In some cases, we have not obtained permission to use the judges names, so they have been reduced to initials.

My fellow wiki ninjas will be digging deeper into some of these articles in this blog series, so watch out for those.

Starting this month you will notice some articles are marked as failing to meet our minimum bar for quality or content.

Any of our judges can exercise their right to veto an article, if they do not feel it meets minimum requirements for a medal.

When this is the case, we will at least give an indication of the reason, so you understand why.

A big thank you also to the other authors who did not make the top three of each category.

Some articles only just missed out, so we may be returning to discuss those too, in future blogs.

How do visitors get to TNWIKI?

search_references

Pretty strange fact here is that most people TYPE the URL to get to the Wiki and all the rest is … Google. Well done!

That is becoming even more clear if we line up the search engines.

What else do we now about our visitors?

It won’t surprise you that majority or our users get to TNWiki from a laptop/PC. But we do get also game consoles, eReaders and set-top boxes.

A little bit about me…

Hello, world! After almost my first full year at Microsoft, I’ve finally taken the time to start my very own shiny, new TechNet blog. I wanted a place to share strange and/or interesting things I come across in my day-to-day interactions with Microsoft customers, as well as general knowledge on anything related to Microsoft technologies.

During my 17 years in the industry, I’ve supported quite a few of the major Microsoft products, including Windows Server, SMS/SCCM, Exchange Server, and Hyper-V. My niche has always been working with Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), including Group Policy, and Certificate Services, but my real passion has always been scripting/automation.

Helping individuals and organizations work more efficiently has always given me a lot of personal satisfaction. So, you’ll probably see me blogging quite a bit about a variety of things you can do with Windows PowerShell, from simple one-liners to complex modules, all aimed at making the daily grind of a system administrator just a little bit easier. I’ve been working with PowerShell for almost 10 years now, however, I’m still learning new things every day, and I hope to share them with you as often as my schedule allows.

Update for Surface Studio (18 April 2017)

Today we’ve released an updated driver for Surface Studio devices running Windows 10 Creators Update. This update includes a new driver for Realtek High Definition Audio (SST) that enables Wake on Voice from Modern Standby.

This update is available in MSI format from the Surface Studio Drivers and Firmware Page in the Microsoft Download Center. Click Download to download the following file:

  • SurfaceStudio_Win10_15063_1701606_0.msi

Note: The driver in this release is applicable only to Windows 10 Creators Update. As such, on the download page you will notice that there are two MSI for Windows 10. In the name if these files you will note a Windows 10 build number indicating the minimum supported build required to install the drivers and firmware contained within. For example, to install the drivers contained in SurfaceStudio_Win10_15063_1701606_0.msi you must have Windows 10 Creators Update (Version 1703) or newer installed on your Surface Studio device. You can find a list of the build numbers for each version of Windows 10 in Windows 10 release information. Files that do not contain a build number in their name are applicable to all versions of Windows 10.

For your reference, here is a full description of the driver version that is updated in this release and the improvement it provides:

Making it easier to revert

Sometimes when things go wrong in my environment, I don’t want to have to clean it all up — I just want to go back in time to when everything was working. But remembering to maintain good recovery points isn’t easy.

Now we’re making it so that you can always roll back your virtual machine to a recent good state if you need to. Starting in the latest Windows Insider build, you can now always revert a virtual machine back to the state it started in.

In Virtual Machine Connection, just click the Revert button to undo any changes made inside the virtual machine since it last started.

Revert virtual machine

Under the hood, we’re using checkpoints; when you start a virtual machine that doesn’t have any checkpoints, we create one for you so that you can easily roll back to it if something goes wrong, then we clean it up once the virtual machine shuts down cleanly.

New virtual machines will be created with “Use automatic checkpoints” enabled by default, but you will have to enable it yourself to use it for existing VMs.  This option can be found in Settings -> Checkpoints -> “Use automatic checkpoints”

Checkpoint settings

Note: the checkpoint will only be taken automatically when the VM starts if it doesn’t have other existing checkpoints.

Hopefully this will come in handy next time you need to undo something in your VM. If you are in the Windows Insider Program, please give it a try and let us know what you think.

Cheers,
Andy
