If you started calling random phone numbers, odds are good that you’d reach a fair number of people who own a Windows-based PC. Apparently a recent group of scammers claiming to be from “Microsoft Operating Systems” figured the same.
According to Microsoft’s Security Tips & Talk blog, a group of scammers has been preying on consumers by telling would-be-victims that a virus has been reported from their Windows PC and they (the scammers) are calling to “fix” it. These callers are not from Microsoft.
Here’s what you need to know: Microsoft will not make unsolicited phone calls about computer security or software fixes. If you receive such a call, hang up.
