Announcing availability of the Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter for Surface Pro and Surface Laptop

Today we are pleased to announce that the Surface Connect to USB-C adapter is now available in commercial channels and through the Microsoft Store Business Desk in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Add USB-C capability to Surface Laptop or the newest Surface Pro with this convenient adapter that supports USB-C docking solutions and USB-C power supplies.1 Enable compatibility with open workspaces and universal docks to empower your users to work when and where they need with their Surface devices.

1 Display output and data throughput capabilities are dependent on the USB-C docking solution used. Requires external power source with a minimum power output of 27W and 12V.

Support for the Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter requires the installation of an update for the Surface System Aggregator Module prior to connecting the adapter to your Surface Pro or Surface Laptop device.

Surface Laptop:

The Surface System Aggregator Module update for Surface Laptop was previously made available on 15 May 2018. If your Surface Laptop is up-to-date with Windows Update or you have installed the 15 May 2018 update from the Microsoft Download Center, your Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter will work with your device out-of-the-box and no further action is required. If your device does not yet have this required update, please run Windows Update to update your device or install the latest drivers for Surface Laptop from the Microsoft Download Center.

The specific driver required for Surface Laptop devices to support the Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter is:

  • Surface System Aggregator v135.2139.257.0

Surface Pro (Model 1796):

The Surface System Aggregator Module update for Surface Pro (Model 1796) has not previously been made available and is now available via the Microsoft Download Center. To support the Surface Connect for USB-C Adapter on your Surface Pro device, you must download and install one of the following packages from the Surface Pro drivers and firmware page of the Microsoft Download Center:

  • SurfacePro_USB-C_WiFi_Win10_16299_1804507_3.msi

The specific driver required for Surface Pro devices to support the Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter is:

  • Surface System Aggregator v234.2237.257.0

Note: At this time, the Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter is supported only on Surface Pro (Model 1796) models. Support for Surface Pro with LTE Advanced (Model 1807) will be available shortly.
