Learn tools and techniques to monitor, diagnose, and repair performance issues in Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2012
As a SQL Server Administrator, you want to proactively prevent or minimize problems; if they occur, you want to diagnose the cause and take corrective actions to fix the problem whenever possible.
The primary goal of this workshop is to provide general methodology for diagnosing and troubleshooting SQL Server performance problems in common customer scenarios by using publicly available tools.
Gain experience and confidence through interactive, break-fix labs designed to provide hands-on experience in diagnosing live performance issues, formulation of a solution for a given issue, and proof of repair after solution implementation
Overview
Microsoft offers this as a three day workshop. The engagement provides students with a scenario based SQL Server performance issue and asks that they find the root cause. This workshop is NOT a lecture, but truly a hands-on experience. The Instructor guides the class through diagnosis of the issue, creation of possible solutions and proof of repair. The goal of the class is to help the student create a repeatable troubleshooting process that can be used to identify performance issues.

Solution Benefits
· The scenarios in this workshop are based on most common real-life SQL issues that customers encounter day to day. This workshop will enable you to learn the underlying troubleshooting methodology to identify and tune SQL performance issues.
· Learn how to capture performance data using SQLDIAG, SQLNexus, Profiler, Perfmon, and DMV’s. Review common performance counters, SQL Wait States, blocking and error logs while providing insight on what performance issues they indicate. Get your feet wet with the first ‘warm up’ labs
· Students will apply day one knowledge to identify performance issues from the normal activity of a production server. Students learn to identify deadlocking, parameter sniffing, TempDB contention and provide/implement their solutions.
· Identify misconfiguration, blocking, and wait states. All previous performance issues are fair game! This is the last round of performance diagnostics. By the end of the day Students will have addressed performance and configuration issues, implemented solutions, and validated their results.
