Back in January, we announced that Windows RT tablets would be shipped with a pre-bundled version of the new Office. You might have been wondering how this new Office for Windows RT tablets will look like and how it will be different from the version designed to run on PCs. On the Office Next Blog, we have now revealed the details:
• Office for Windows RT is a fully-featured Office client, optimized for the tablet form factor – most importantly supporting touch and providing long battery life.
• The new Windows RT devices will come with Office Home & Student 2013 RT, containing Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint
• Office for Windows RT supports the vast majority of Office Home & Student 2013 features available on PCs; differences between the two products are subtle.
Brief, with Office for Windows RT, we’ll be offering our customers a great new Office touch experience on tablets - in a familiar environment that feels just like what they are used to.
The Windows RT devices available at Windows RT General Availability will include preview editions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. After the final edition of Office Home & Student 2013 RT is released, the Windows RT device will be automatically updated with the final edition for free via Windows Update.
