PC users need to play their part in keeping computers and data secure.
Small business PC users should by now be well aware of the need to keep their computer files and documents secure.
So much has been written about IT security in recent years that the vast majority of PC users have at least some grasp of good practice in this area.
But the danger with thinking your system is secure is that a degree of complacency creeps in - and this is where the danger can arise.
In order to keep PCs healthy, you need to do more than simply download anti-virus software every 12 or 24 months.
The nature of online threats is constantly evolving, and security defences need to respond to this by doing the same.
As such, new updates and upgrades are released on an almost daily basis, in a bid to ensure systems are kept safe and secure.
But PC users need to play their part - ensuring their computer is set up to receive automatic downloads and updates as and when they become available.
If your anti-virus solution flags up a problem, it needs to be fixed as soon as possible - and this may require the direction of the user.
So carrying out regular system checks, and ensuring IT security defences are working as designed is a good habit to get into - it ensures nothing is left to chance.
