Symptom:
When sending mail using a saved .msg file from Outlook 2013 (including Office 365 ProPlus), content of the sent mail became blank.
Conditions:
This issues occurs when matching below two criterial:
1. Outlook 2013 which has applied below update:
Title : August 11, 2015, update for Outlook 2013 (KB3055012)
URL : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3055012
2. Connecting to an Exchange Server in cached mode or Non-Exchange Server using a POP or IMAP account
Note
This issue won't occur if connecting to an Exchange Server in online mode.
How to check if KB3055012 is installed:
1. Launch Outlook 2013.
2. Click [File]-[Office Account].
3. Click [About Outlook]
4. Check below Outlook build numbers in "About Microsoft Outlook" window.
Microsoft Outlook 2013 (15.0.4745.1000) MSO (15.0.xxxx.xxxx)
If your Outlook build number is over 15.0.4745.1000, then KB3055012 has already been installed.
Repro steps:
1. Create a new message, type some text in message body, subject, and add someone on the To line.
2. Save this message as .msg file on the desktop.
3. Open this saved .msg file and click [Send].
4. Look at the Sent Items
Results:
The body of previous sent mail became blank.
Note
This issue is confirmed to occur for all mails in HTML and rich text format except for text format.
Status:
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem.
Outlook team update this blog when any information is updated or fix is published.
For now, the only way to prevent this issue if you want to send mail using saved .msg file is to uninstall KB3055012.
Workaround:
Instead of saving a mail as a message file you can save it as a template file (.oft).
- Steps
1. Create a new message, type some text in message body, subject, and add someone on the To line.
2. Click [File]-[Save As], choosing Outlook Template file type (oft) and save it on the desktop.
3. Open this .oft file from you desktop and click [Send].
4. Look at the Sent Items.
